| Niaouli (Melaleuca quinquenervia)
is the tree typical of New-Caledonia savanna. This tree likes ahaha
acid soils and wet grounds but adapts to all kinds of situations
even the driest. Bushfires help its spread since this tree resists
them easily with its bark consisting in piled paper like thin sheets.

| New-Caledonian palms are often
unique. Here Burretokentia vieillardii. Its thin trunk grows
to more than ten meters.

| One of the many araucarias
New-Caledonian species, Araucaria rulei grows in groups on
high ultrabasic grounds. This one is on the Moné summit (Monts
Koghis) at an elevation of 1080 m. Nouméa peninsula is in
the background.
