The Bluespotted stingray (Dasyatis kuhlii, 50 cm wingspan) hides almost entirely in sand sometimes in very shallow waters near shore. It is then dangerous for people wading in such places. They would sting an ankle or a foot with its venomous spines if someone trods on them. Its sting is extreemely painful and often leads to some flesh decay. Even very young rays can inflict very painful stings.
